Who hasn’t had this happen to them? It’s a raucous party going on; you’re in the corner struggling to make eye contact with that hot girl/ guy across the room. After a few frantic thoughts and some liquid encouragement, you finally make the move to go over and introduce yourself, but then 1) the person walks away 2) their girlfriend/boyfriend approaches and gives them a smooch or 3) they shoot you down. In any case, you walk back to your original spot, tail between your legs. Yeah, it happens to the best of us. Those complexities, anxieties and feelings are all perfectly summed up on “Mhmm”, the latest single by Indigold. The genre–bending threesome formed by Ivy Sole, Dev* and CS–W serve up a jazzy hip hop groove over the smooth sampling of El Debarge’s “I Like”. It’s a dope track that it’ll keep you swaying even if you didn’t pull that guy/ girl you lusted over.
“Mhmm” is the 3rd track from Home, by the Philly based band whose debut EP blends hip hop, soul, indie rock and pop for an exciting texture and distinct vibe.
